Bærum: marking Ukraine’s Flag Day and Independence Day

On 23 August 2025, Livet vil vinne (Veldedig HjelpeSenter for Bærum) brought Ukrainians and Norwegians together in Bærum to mark Ukraine’s Flag Day and Independence Day — an evening of dignity, freedom and community.

Why we gathered

We honoured the blue-and-yellow flag and the independence proclaimed in 1991 — not only as history, but as a daily responsibility: to protect freedom, support each other and build community where we live.

Programme & atmosphere

The hall was decorated with Ukrainian and Norwegian flags. Guests shared stories, sang familiar songs and offered warm words of support.
A special part of the event was an exhibition of art and handmade crafts — paintings, knitted items and other creations. Children received “flowers of gratitude,” adults made new friends. We closed with homemade pastries, coffee and tea — small tastes of home.

Words of solidarity

The central message in every speech was simple: we stand together. Bærum became a meeting place where Norwegian hospitality and Ukrainian resilience met.

Thanks

Heartfelt thanks to the volunteers of Livet vil vinne in Bærum and to all guests and partners who helped with venue, music and the exhibition. Your efforts made the evening warm and meaningful.
