Ukrainian communities in the municipalities of Sunnfjord, Kinn and Askvoll, in cooperation with the association Livet vil vinne, held a celebration of Ukraine’s Independence Day.
The programme included a live performance of the national anthem, performances by children’s groups and a women’s choir, a market of Ukrainian crafts, a photo corner, and refreshments.
This celebration was created together — to preserve our bond with home and to share our culture with Norway, which has welcomed us. Ukrainian and Norwegian families, friends and civic partners stood by our side.
Ceremonial opening. The concert opened with a live performance of Ukraine’s national anthem by a teacher from Kinn kulturskule (Kinn kommune), Polish by origin. The moment united the hall — people stood in silence, with flags and tears of joy.
Concert. On stage were our children with songs and dances, and a women’s choir of Ukrainians from the three communities. Familiar melodies and new arrangements were greeted with prolonged applause.
Fest area. The Livet vil vinne team set up a photo corner in national colours, where families captured the day. Nearby, a market offered Ukrainian souvenirs and handmade items: jewellery, décor, candles, woodwork and embroidered accessories. Our hosts served homemade treats and coffee — warm conversations and good spirits lasted throughout the day.
Atmosphere and guests. Many attendees came in vyshyvankas and with flags, adding a solemn note to the event. Among the honoured guests was the Mayor of Førde (Førde), who greeted the community and emphasised the importance of such events for integration.
Thanks. We thank the volunteers of Livet vil vinne, participants and partners from Sunnfjord, Kinn and Askvoll for their professional preparation, as well as all the families who contributed to organisation and refreshments. Together we show that memory, culture and mutual support make us stronger — wherever we are.
