At the annual Sigdal Community Day (Bygdedagen) in Sigdal Museum (Prestfoss), our team Livet vil vinne – Veldedig HjelpeSenter for Sigdal hosted a Ukrainian stand. Sun, children’s laughter, warm talks and heartfelt support — the kind of moments a community is built on.
The atmosphere. The museum yard filled with voices and aromas. Some visitors stopped out of curiosity, others to say “well done”, many to share their own stories about Ukraine. We thanked, listened and laughed together — feeling how simple human warmth brings people closer.
Home-baked tastes — a flavour of home. On the table: muffins, cookies, pies and freshly brewed coffee. We treated everyone — no price tags, no pressure — just an invitation to be part of something good. For many of our families it was the taste of home; for guests, a first encounter with Ukrainian flavours.
Balloon lottery. Joy for children, smiles for adults, and a shared reason to help. The balloon lottery quickly became the day’s favourite: handshakes, small prizes, snapshots — and every draw added extra warmth to the celebration.
Ukrainian crafts. Jewellery, small décor and handmade items were chosen with care. People took home a piece of our culture — a sign of support and friendship between Sigdal and Ukrainians.
Conversations that matter. Visitors asked how Ukrainian families are doing in Norway, how they could help, and why language and traditions matter to us. We spoke about mutual respect — and about Norway not only as a place that welcomed us, but as a community we want to contribute to.
Thank you. Our sincere thanks to the Bygdedagen organisers, the Sigdal Museum team, our volunteers, and everyone who stopped by. You shared smiles, kind words and time — as valuable as any donation. Together we create hope. Together we are stronger.
